Foods That Can Make You Happy

For the most part, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and have to be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be utterly nutritious and good for us to eat. There are several foods that, when you consume them, may better your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, you may be surprised to learn, are wonderful at battling depression. Just make sure that you don’t get rid of the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Eat an egg and be happy!

Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be improved by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is possible since these foods are rich in magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more of this chemical in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Nuts, in addition to bettering your mood, can be a super protein source.

If you would like to battle depression, try eating some cold water fish. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3s. DHA and omega-3s are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly elevate your mood.

Grains can be wonderful for driving away a terrible mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really wonderful for helping increase your happiness levels. These foods fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods as well. Feeling starved can be awful! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Green tea is really excellent for your mood. You just knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while also calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you become so much healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood as well!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try a couple of of these tips instead.
