Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

Many of us have been trained to think that comfort foods are not good and must be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is candy or another junk food, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be really nourishing and good for you. There are some foods that, when you eat them, could improve your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually terrific at beating back depression. Just be sure that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. When you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, especially the yolks, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you boost your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Consume an egg and feel better!

Make a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all good for improving your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel at all times. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein food source.

If you wish to beat depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all high in omega-3 fats and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.

Some grains are truly excellent for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually wonderful for helping increase your happiness levels. They help you feel full too which can actually help to make your mood better. It’s easy to feel low when you feel famished! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not difficult for your body to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood glucose which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were sure it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea has been found to be packed full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you are aware that it helps you to elevate your moods as well!

See, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try these suggestions instead!
