Learn How to Boost Your Mood with Food

In general, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and have to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether healthy and it’s good for you to consume them. Several foods honestly do elevate your mood when you eat them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, you might be surprised to discover, are terrific at fighting depression. Just make sure that you do not throw away the yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to boost your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that affect your mood. Eat some eggs to feel better!

Make a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all great for improving your mood. This is possible as these foods are rich in magnesium which boosts your production of serotonin. Serotonin is called the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more serotonin in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a fantastic source of protein.

Cold water fish are good if you would like to be in a better mood. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fats. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can really help you overcome depression.

Grains can be great for overcoming a bad mood. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are excellent at helping you be happier. They help you feel full too which can really help to make your mood better. It’s easy to feel low when you are starving! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not hard to digest. You digest these foods more quickly than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while also loosening up the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you become better. Now you know that applies to your mood too!

Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try several of these instead!
