Instructions to make Asun (spicy roasted goat meat):
  1. Clean the goat meat, debone and dice into bite size pieces. Seasoning with paprika, thyme, seasoning cube, blended onion and salt. Mix thoroughly making sure every part of the meat is seasoned. Cover with cling film or foil and place in the fridge to marinate for at least an hour or even overnight.
  2. Cook the marinated meat on medium heat until soft (not over cooked). The meat would cook in it own juice but if it isn't enough, add a little at a time until the meat is tender.
  3. Preheat the grill or set the fire if using an outdoor grill. Line the grilling rack with foil and spread out the cooked meat. Grill for about 30-35 minutes or until the meat is roasted and crispy on the outside. Set this aside.
  4. For the sauce. Place a pan/wok on medium Flame, add vegetable oil. Saute the onion for about 2 minutes. Add the pepper mix and fry. This will take about 5 minutes. Add a pinch of salt and seasoning to taste.
  5. Add the roasted meat to the sauce and mix. Garnish with the bell peppers and onion.

This is what I remember about Asun. The goat is smoked raw over a giant charcoal lit barbecue, then it is cut into smaller sizes, placed on a heated. Okay, if you are not in for anything spicy, you can also modify the recipe to suit your palate, so no more excuses not to eat asun.

How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

In general, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and need to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this is true. Other times, comfort foods can be utterly nutritious and good for us to consume. There are a number of foods that, when you consume them, can improve your mood. If you seem to be a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are terrific for helping you fight depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the yolk. Every time you want to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you elevate your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that control your mood. Eat an egg and feel a lot happier!

Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all wonderful for raising your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more of it you have, the happier you are going to feel. Nuts, along with improving your mood, can be a superb source of protein.

Cold water fish are excellent if you would like to feel better. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all rich in omega-3 fats and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.

Some grains are actually wonderful for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all excellent for helping you be in a happier state of mind. They help you feel full too which can truly help to make your mood better. Feeling starved can really bring you down! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are easy to digest. You digest these grains quicker than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You just knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is rich in a particular amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while at the same loosening up the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you be so much healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood too!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try these suggestions instead!
