Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

Mostly, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and need to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Other times, comfort foods can be utterly nourishing and good for us to eat. Several foods really do elevate your mood when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, test out a few of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are great for helping you fight depression. You must be sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Consume an egg and jolly up!

Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more of it you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Nuts, in addition to improving your mood, can be a superb protein source.

If you wish to fight depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly boost your mood.

It’s not hard to fight your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are great at helping you have a happier mood. These foods can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. Feeling famished can be a real downer! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood sugar which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is truly good for your mood. You were simply waiting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this particular amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while simultaneously loosening up the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you become better. And now you are aware that green tea can help you be happier too!

You can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are terrible for you just so to feel better! Try a couple of of these tips instead.
