Learn How to Boost Your Mood with Food

Many of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are bad and should be avoided. Sometimes, if the comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. There are several foods that, when you eat them, can better your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, you may be astonished to learn, are wonderful at fighting depression. Just be sure that you do not throw away the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can be terrific for elevating your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–run better. Try eating a couple of eggs to cheer up!

Make a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all great for helping to raise your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more of it in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, particularly, are a great protein food source.

Cold water fish are great if you would like to feel better. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all high in omega-3 and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can really help you overcome your depression.

Some grains are really great for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all wonderful for helping you be in a happier state of mind. These grains can help you feel full for longer as well, which is a mood improver. Feeling hungry can really make you feel terrible! These grains can elevate your mood since it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. You digest them faster than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental acuity while calming the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you feel better. Now you know that green tea helps you to elevate your moods as well!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try these hints instead!
