Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood

For the most part, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and need to be avoided. Often, if the comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this holds true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be totally healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. There are some foods that basically can boost your moods when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are terrific for helping you combat depression. You need to be sure, though, that what you make includes the yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you raise your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–work better. Consume an egg and feel a lot better!

Make a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Your mood can be improved by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin levels. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The higher your serotonin levels, the better you will feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you would like to feel better. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you overcome depression.

Grains can be wonderful for fighting a bad mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are fantastic at helping you be happier. These foods can help you feel full for longer too, which is a mood improver. Feeling starved can be a real downer! These grains can elevate your mood as it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest these foods quicker than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You were just waiting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in a specific amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while simultaneously loosening up the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you feel healthier. Now you are aware that it helps you to raise your moods as well!

As you can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are not good for you to feel better! Try a few of these tips instead.
