Foods That Can Make You Happy

Many of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are bad and should be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Other times, comfort foods can be very healthy and good for us to consume. A number of foods honestly do raise your mood when you consume them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional boost, try some of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you battle depression. You must see to it, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. Whenever you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to improve your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Try eating an egg and cheer up!

Make a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is possible as these foods are high in magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you are wanting to be in a better mood. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you overcome depression.

Grains can be good for fighting a bad mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are great at helping you be happier. They fill you up better and that can help improve your moods also. It’s not hard to feel low when you feel famished! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. You digest them more quickly than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You were just anticipating to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with a particular amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while at the same time relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you be healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood also!

As you can see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try some of these instead!
