Information on How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

Mostly, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and should be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be totally healthy and it’s good for you to consume them. There are some foods that, when you eat them, may better your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, you may be surprised to learn, are wonderful at combating depression. Just be sure that you do not throw out the egg yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk especially, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Eat a few eggs to cheer up!

Make a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all good for raising your mood. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin production. Serotonin is called the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more serotonin in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Nuts, along with raising your mood, can be a super source of protein.

Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you want to combat depression. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3s. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you overcome your depression.

Grains can be excellent for fighting a bad mood. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are terrific at helping you feel better. They fill you up better and that can help improve your moods as well. Feeling famished can be awful! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest and process. You digest these grains more quickly than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This helps better your mental sharpness while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you be a lot healthier. And now you know it can help raise your mood too!

Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try some of these instead!
