The ingredients needed to make Sardine Kabayaki:
  1. Prepare 4 fillets Sardines
  2. Prepare 1 Katakuriko
  3. Take Kabayaki sauce
  4. Get 3 tbsp Soy sauce
  5. Prepare 3 tbsp or 1-2 tablespoons if you prefer your sauce to be less sweet Sugar
  6. Make ready 3 tbsp Sake
  7. Prepare 1 tbsp Mirin
  8. Take 3 tbsp Water
  9. Prepare 1 shiso leaves, daikon radish sprouts, or julienned cucumber Toppings
Steps to make Sardine Kabayaki:
  1. These are the sardines.
  2. Cut the head off.
  3. I believe that "kabayaki" means that fish should be butterflied from the back of it, so I cut the back open (I used my fingers to open it). You can off course open from the bottom.
  4. Take the guts and spine out, rinse well, and pat dry with paper towels.
  5. Coat the fish with katakuriko.
  6. Add oil to a skillet and pan-fry both sides of the fish. Cook the "meat" side first.
  7. Once it is done cooking, take it out from the skillet.
  8. Combine the ingredients for the kabayaki sauce.
  9. Add the sauce mixture from Step 8 in a skillet and bring it to a boil.
  10. Add the sardine from Step 7 in the skillet, and take care to dip only the flesh of the fish into the sauce. Then you're done.
  11. This amount of the sauce should be enough for 4 sardine fillets.
  12. The sauce maybe too concentrated for small children. Adjust the taste by not letting it simmer too much at Step 10 or adding more water to the sauce.
  13. Large-sized sardines have big bones, so you should remove those. You can also ask the grocer to fillet the fish for you.

Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

Mostly, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and must be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this is very true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely healthy and it’s good for you to consume them. There are a number of foods that really can boost your moods when you consume them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, test out some of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you fight depression. Just make sure that you do not toss the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Eat an egg and jolly up!

Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given time. The more of it you have, the happier you are going to feel. Nuts, along with improving your mood, can be a super protein source.

If you would like to battle depression, try eating some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all loaded with omega-3s and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can really help you fight your depression.

Some grains are truly excellent for fighting off bad moods. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are terrific at helping you have a happier mood. These grains fill you up better and that can help improve your moods as well. Feeling hungry can truly make you feel awful! These grains can elevate your mood because it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood glucose which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You were sure green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea has been found to be rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This helps improve your mental focus while relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you be better. And now you know green tea can help raise your mood too!

As you can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are terrible for you to feel better! Go with these tips instead!
