Use Food to Improve Your Mood

For the most part, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and must be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be super healthy and good for you. There are some foods that basically can improve your moods when you eat them. When you feel a little down and need an emotional boost, test out a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you battle depression. Just be sure that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. When you want to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for boosting your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–run better. Try eating some eggs to jolly up!

Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all wonderful for elevating your mood. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that dictates to your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the better you are going to feel. Nuts, along with elevating your mood, can be a super protein source.

If you wish to overcome depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you battle your depression.

It’s not hard to fight your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all good for helping you feel happier. These grains can help you feel full for longer also, which is a mood improver. It’s not hard to feel a little bit off when you are starving! These grains can elevate your mood since it’s easy for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your glucose levels which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea has been found to be rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while at the same time relaxing the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you feel so much healthier. Now you are aware that it helps you to raise your moods too!

As you can see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Test out these tips instead!
